Philosophy, Practice & Conversation

Join Chris for our second Yoga Talk, a guided conversation exploring the philosophy and wider traditions of yoga.

The Five Acts

Creation, Preservation, Dissolution, Concealment & Grace

This evening turns towards one of the central ideas of Śaiva philosophy: the five acts, or Pañcakṛtya.

Creation, preservation, dissolution, concealment and grace offer a way of understanding the activity of consciousness and the unfolding of experience.

We will explore each of these acts and their relationship to one another, looking at how this framework might help us think differently about change, identity, perception and our relationship with the world around us.

It is a particularly interesting way to approach familiar experiences, from the things we create and maintain in our lives to the ways our understanding can become obscured, challenged and transformed.

Come with questions

Chris will begin with a short, focused talk before opening things up for questions, discussion and debate. No previous knowledge of yoga philosophy is needed, and you can attend independently of the first evening.
