Equinox Yoga Mala with Chris

  • Yoga x Life Studios Yoga x Life, Portland Road Newcastle upon Tyne, England, NE2 1DW United Kingdom (map)

The equinox is the one point in the year where light and dark stand in true balance. In tantric and yogic tradition, that outer balance is understood to support balance within. It's treated as a threshold day: a moment better suited than most to practice aimed at stillness, at loosening our grip on opposites, and at meeting a more settled, unified state of awareness. Practitioners have long used days like this one for meditation, breath and purification work, on the understanding that practice held here carries a little further than it does on an ordinary day.

Chris will lead the practice into Yoga Mala for the morning: 108 rounds of a repeated, focused movement, synchronised with breath, building a rhythm that opens the door to real shift at a moment of transition. The practice closes with Deha Shuddhi, a purification of the body, bringing the morning to rest.

Why this one matters

Yoga Mala has been part of Chris's own practice, and part of the Yoga x Life calendar, since he first led one in 2012 - it's become one of the studio's true signature events. This year, it's the only Yoga Mala Chris is leading - so if you've been meaning to experience it, this is the morning to do it.

No experience of Yoga Mala or Deha Shuddhi required, Chris will guide the practice throughout, and the repetition itself is part of what makes it accessible.
