Sunrise Raag and Bhuta Shuddhi

  • Yoga x Life Studios Yoga x Life, Portland Road Newcastle upon Tyne, England, NE2 1DW United Kingdom (map)

The equinox itself lands two days after this session; and we're starting the approach early, while the balance it brings is still gathering rather than already here. We're marking it with an early start: worth the alarm.

The session opens with a live sunrise raag from Nick, a form of classical Indian music rooted in a tradition built specifically to match the qualities of a particular time of day, here, tuned to the stillness and gathering light of the days leading into the equinox. As the raag settles you, Chris leads the practice into Bhuta Shuddhi, a purification practice that works through the five elements one by one, clearing and settling each in turn. The session closes in contemplation and a quiet space to meet the equinox's approaching energy with awareness, groundedness and gratitude, rather than rushing straight into the day.

No experience of raag, Bhuta Shuddhi or early-morning practice required. Come as you are, and let the early hour do some of the settling for you.
