Core, Compression & Strength: Handstand Foundations

  • Yoga x Life Studios Yoga x Life, Portland Road Newcastle upon Tyne, England, NE2 1DW United Kingdom (map)

A pressed handstand looks like a party trick, but it's really an engineering problem - one solved almost entirely below the shoulders, long before anyone thinks about kicking up. This workshop is about that groundwork: the core strength, compression and shoulder stability that make pressing possible at all.

Chris will work through the specific strength this practice draws on; deep core engagement, the compression through the hips and hamstrings that lifts your legs off the floor, and the shoulder stability that takes the load safely. Expect focused conditioning work, broken down and built up in layers, with plenty of attention on the coordination that ties strength together into a single, controlled movement rather than separate parts working against each other.

This is a genuinely practical session, less about achieving the shape today and more about building the physical foundation that makes it achievable over time. No handstand or inversion experience necessary.

Continuing on? Our second workshops this evening picks up straight after this one at 7.30pm, moving into the technique and skill work of the press itself. Book both for a full evening of handstand-focused practice.
